What is Privacy Curtain Mesh?
There have been lots of calls in the last week from Practice Managers of Doctor’s Surgeries, who find themselves in need of longer Privacy Curtains. There are solutions and one of them is using Privacy Curtain Mesh in the manufacturing process.
Privacy Curtain Mesh is a continuous length of open-weave netting that is sewn into the top of a Privacy Curtain.
The Advantages of using Mesh on your Privacy Curtains
To make your Curtains Longer
Often Privacy Curtain fabrics are able to be turned and joined in the manufacturing process to obtain longer than ‘standard’ finished lengths. Sometimes however the pattern on the fabric is not conducive to this solution and this is the perfect time to add mesh.
To increase Patient Privacy
More often, particularly in Hospitals, the tracks are fitted directly to the ceiling. This provides a finish that is less obtrusive and less clinical than a track suspended from the ceiling. As a result, Privacy Curtains need to be longer to offer patient privacy (there’s no point in a curtain that only comes down to your knees!)
To Save you Money
If you are trying to cover a large area, sometimes you can save money by using mesh.
For Patient Comfort
If your curtains extend from the ceiling to just off the floor it can make some people feel quite claustrophobic.
For Fire Safety
In the event of a fire, mesh at the top of a curtain will allow the passage of smoke from one area to another to activate fire alarms, as well as the passage of water when fire sprinklers are activated.
Do I need Privacy Curtain Mesh?
Low Ceilings
If your track is fitted directly to a low ceiling you will not need mesh and your curtain fabric of choice will be a perfect solution on its own.
High Ceilings
Solution 1 – Your Bed Screen Track can be suspended from the ceiling. The installation height can then be calculated specifically to work in with your selected fabric. This can also be a great way to avoid existing light fittings and air conditioning ducts. No mesh is required.
Solution 2 – Fit the track directly to the ceiling and add mesh to your curtain.
Solution 3 – Use a combination of lowering the track and using Privacy Curtain Mesh.
Privacy Curtain Mesh – what colours are available?
White is standard, however if this is not to your liking it can be very successfully coloured using Heat Transfer Printing, which is colour fast to laundering (always follow manufacturers instructions)
Is Privacy Curtain Mesh Fire Retardant?
Just like the Privacy Curtain fabrics, the mesh is inherently fire retardant and meets Australian Standards.
